Why "The Pinata Theory"?
After I'd been using the online name The Pinata Theory for a few months, a couple of people asked me why I chose the name.
My reply?
Because it was available? Yes, but not only because of that.
Because it's a memorable name? Yes, in part.
I went with it because I think it best describes the idea that's been in my mind for several years: That there has to be a way to Make Things Happen. A way to Get Results. A way to get whichever type of "payoff" we're looking for when conventional methods fail. Or so says my sense of logic.
I slowly came to the realization that these so-called unsolvable issues and problems in life should be tackled like a piñata at a party: use a big stick, have family and friends around for support, and use a lot of enthusiasm to beat the hell out of that piñata, blow it wide open for all to see, and let all in attendance share in the spoils.
If you've ever watched kids at a party tackle a piñata (or watched highlights on America's Funniest Videos), you know some kids want what's inside the piñata and they take it apart with near-surgical precision, some kids don't want to damage the piñata despite what's hidden inside, while others enthusiastically beat the absolute snot out of the piñata (and the family pet or old Uncle Louie if they accidentally get too close).
As a child, I was the second type, but decided when I was older to become the first type because it seemed logical to do so. And no, I'm not just talking about piñatas. I realize now, however, that those two approaches don't work on certain types of piñatas, and that a certain amount of righteous indignation and righteous anger -- along with a much bigger stick -- is what it's going to take to break those "indestructible" piñatas into confetti and get at what's hidden inside.
Will I have to hit it longer and harder? Yes.
Will I need help? Yes, and I'll take pretty much any help offered, within reason.
Will there be collateral damage? Undoubtedly, so don't forget your safety goggles and cup.
But will it make life sweeter, richer, better, less stressful, easier in the long run, not just for me, but for anyone facing the same types of life challenges? OH. HELL. YES.
